If you re just adding one the wires in the pigtail include the live circuit wire the wire going to the new fixture and the wire from the existing fixture. Turn off the breaker controlling the existing fixture. Slip the can s box into the hole and then push the can body up into the hole until its flange is tight to the ceiling. Measure the distance between the electrical junction boxes attached to the recessed lighting fixtures and add at least 18 inches to the measurement.
